Caner started as a self taught cybersecurity researcher with deep roots in the white hat hacker culture. While studying Computer Engineering, he joined Octosek, a legendary non profit cybersecurity collective he describes as the FC Barcelona of the Turkish security scene. After years of leading offensive security teams and serving at the national level, Caner co founded Brandefense with the goal of building a global success story.
In the early stages, Brandefense faced a survival of the fittest reality. Caner candidly shares how he and his co founder Hakan sold their personal cars and maxed out credit cards to pay salaries during a period without a formal business plan. The turning point came when they made the strategic decision to bring in a seasoned professional CEO, Hakan Uzun, to lead global growth. This move allowed the founders to focus on their technical strengths while transforming the startup into a world class competitor.
Today, Brandefense operates as a leading Cyber Threat Intelligence platform protecting over 4,000 brands across 28 countries. From major banks to global giants, companies rely on Brandefense to monitor attack surfaces and mitigate digital risks. Caner attributes their success to owning their data and indexing trillions of records from the dark web rather than just connecting to third party pools. He believes the future belongs to those who possess unique private data and the AI capabilities to process it at scale.
Reflecting on the pace of innovation, Caner shared that he has spent the last 47 days sleeping only 3 to 4 hours a night, immersing himself in AI research to debug the company’s future. He views the calm, focused environment of Ankara as a strategic city for founders, helping them avoid the distractions found in more chaotic hubs.
We are proving that world class cybersecurity is not reserved for global superpowers, Caner said. Our team wins because we are better fighters at the table.
